The young protagonist in my current novel project is giving me fits. Repeatedly, I put him in a situation calculated to guide his path aright, and he does contrary to anything the author might intend. I’m trying to decide if the kid is naïve, stupid, or just willful and perverse. I’m sorely tempted to write him out and dream up a character more responsive and pliable.
In any case, this writer would not do at all well as a god. Even given the power, he wouldn’t have the patience for it.
